Guilty until proven innocent? Hundreds of professional people are finding it impossible to find work because details of offences for which they were never even tried are being included on their CRB checks. A barrister from Essex who acts for some of them is calling for a new appeals system to allow people a chance to clear their records. The government will shortly be announcing the result of a review of the system and whether non- convictions will continue to be included on CRB checks. At the moment it is down to police forces to decide which information to disclose, and at present there is no facility for an individual to argue their case at independent review.
