Maddy's prospects of promotion are ruined when her sister Hannah arrives at Holby with an ex-con friend who has been stabbed. Although Maddy ultimately tries to do the right thing, Ric disapproves of her behaviour. Donna tries to cheer up Michael, who is in a mess since his wife Annalese left. It is an uphill struggle, but Donna is as persistent as ever. Elliot discovers Ben, his son-in-law, is losing his sight, but decides to keep it a secret from his daughter Martha.
