Back in march Hardtalk was in the Middle East looking at the issue of Israeli settlements in the West Bank. When Ehud Olmert became Israeli prime minister in May 2006 he said he would close some minor isolated settlements as part of a plan of 'separation' from the Palestinians. However, the plan has since been shelved. Stephen Sackur talks to Yisrael Medad of the Yesha Council, the main settler organisation, about the future of settlements, their illegality under international law and the complex politics of Israel.
