Twenty four hours before entering Downing Street Gordon Brown orchestrated a powerful piece of political theatre - the defection of a senior Tory MP. Quentin Davies said he was leaving behind the Conservatives, who no longer believed in anything, for a Brown-led Labour party which offered 'a clear vision'.
