The famous fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm of two children lost in the woods is told in Engelbert Humperdinck's ever-popular opera, Hansel and Gretel, from the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. The production, full of wit and black comedy, has a star-studded cast with Angelika Kirchschlager as Hansel, Diana Damrau as Gretel, Sir Thomas Allen and Elizabeth Connell as their parents, and Anja Silja as the wicked witch. Sir Colin Davis conducts the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House. Katie Derham introduces the story of the two hungry children, Hansel and Gretel, who are banished by their mother to collect food.
