Governors Needed - State Schools

Reeta Chakrabati sets out to discover what is involved in being a school governor and how influential their work is on the success or failure of a school. They are the largest volunteer body in the UK but in certain areas there is a severe shortage; it involves a lot of work and its commitment in unpaid and largely unseen. Reeta examines the role of governors in state schools. She talks to Phil Revell, chief executive of the National Governors Association, who is deeply concerned about the number of governing bodies who do not operate as effectively as they should. Reeta visits several schools to find out how the system works and whether it always follows that a successful school has a successful governing body.
