Spring is finally here, and as the evenings stay lighter for longer, now is the time for vegetable growers to get crops into the ground. Toby Buckland starts off varieties which can be sown, grown and harvested within weeks, in a new small space vegetable plot at Greenacre. At Glebe Cottage in Devon, Carol Klein continues exploring the relationships between plants, and it's the lily family which comes under her scrutiny. She shows how to identify their members through their floral structure, as well as demonstrating some propagating techniques. As the soil warms up, it's time to get evergreens planted so that they can establish well before the summer. Back at Greenacre, Joe Swift is looking at and planting evergreen hedging as well as offering advice on planting out Camellias. Staying with Camellias, at RHS Wisley gardens, tree and shrub expert Colin Crosbie gives a master class on pruning techniques, suggests ways to reinvigorate Camellias that have stopped flowering and recommends varieties to plant if you want to extend the flowering season.
