To ease the problem of overfishing, the UN is supporting the idea of a huge growth in farmed fish. Worldwide, the practice is already worth more than fish caught in open water. However, Europe lags behind. There has been no growth in the industry in the region for ten years. Charlotte Smith visits a trout farm in Gloucestershire to explore why there are so few farms starting up in the UK and to investigate whether concerns over welfare and pollution make farming fish unsustainable.
