Syed tells Christian he realises he can’t be cured and has stopped seeing his therapist. Christian’s dismissive, he won’t be Syed’s ‘reward’. Syed gives in to Zainab’s matchmaking plans and cooks dinner for Bushra and the aunties. Masood gives Syed back his father’s Qu’ran. However, by the time the guests arrive, Syed’s made his choice. He kisses his parents, telling them he loves them before giving Tamwar the Qu’ran. Syed finds Christian and tells him he chooses him. Masood and Zainab see Christian and Syed together, then turn away and go back inside. Christian suggests to Syed they go home and the couple walk up Bridge Street arm in arm. Phil’s on the verge of attacking Ian with a hammer, when Peggy steps in and stops him. Later, Ian’s distracted and Lucy sends him home from work. Peggy’s worried that Phil’s going to start drinking again. After some straight talking from Shirley, Phil boxes up all the alcohol in the house and deposits it on the bar in front of Shirley and Peggy. Ronnie reacts badly to Peggy’s comments about Owen. She admits to Jack that the baby she miscarried was Owen’s. When she’s summoned to school, Lucy presumes Adam’s told them she cheated and admits what she did to Peter. When Lucy and Jane arrive home, jubilant, with the news that the school think Lucy’s destined for great things, maybe even Oxbridge, Ian’s thrilled and Peter’s irritated. Stacey panics when she discovers Jean’s taken Lily out. She frantically searches for them and when she finds Jean, insists it’s not safe outside. Stacey’s clear, Lily’s her daughter and she has to make her own mistakes as a mother. Eventually, Stacey admits she’s scared of ending up in the same state Jean did.
