Proudly surveying the Vic, Alfie expresses his gratitude to Michael for the money. Claiming she doesn’t want to be indebted to Michael, Kat says she wants them to pay Michael back today. Alfie decides to concoct a story to sell to a magazine to raise the money. Alfie and Michael visit the Gazette but their convoluted story fails to convince. On hearing that the Gazette is looking for tales of East End spirit during the Blitz, Alfie rethinks and claims that the Queen Mother sheltered in the Vic during the war. Kat’s mortified on learning that Alfie plans to ask Michael to become a partner in the Vic. Claudine from the Gazette visits the Vic. She looks to be unconvinced until Michael saves the day by providing some memorabilia as evidence. Kat regards Michael sternly. Left alone, Kat implores Michael to leave. Unable to understand the urgency, Michael freezes as he realises that Kat’s baby is his. Billy’s troubled on receiving a letter from the police. He reveals to Phil that it’s from the child abuse investigation team regarding one of the workers from his time in a kids’ home. With Billy reluctant to revisit his past, Phil tears up the letter. Short-staffed, Jack offers Billy work at the club. Things go well until Billy’s riled by an obnoxious punter teasing Jean and throws him out. Reprimanding Billy for causing a scene, Jack asks him to leave. Touched by Billy’s chivalry, Jean invites him home, where they end up in a passionate embrace. Whitney’s keen to help organise Billie’s birthday party, but Carol’s dismissive; Billie is her son. Bianca warns Carol against smothering Billie, instead urging her to develop other interests. Carol calls Lewis. Finding herself at a loose end, Grace manages to tread on Dot’s toes with charity work.
