Mike Thomson presents the series using documentary evidence to throw new light on past events. Mike tracks down formerly secret reports from MI5 that describe how brainwashing techniques were being used inside British intelligence bases in North Africa during the Second World War. There, prisoners were exposed to truth drugs and other methods that shocked even a senior agent who went on to head the secret service. Allegations appeared in the press in 1960 and questions were asked in parliament. The claims were denied by then prime minister Harold Macmillan, but Document has evidence that he misled the country.
