After responding to an advert in a medical magazine, Doctor Mary Fortune is whisked from the North East of Scotland to the middle of the Australian desert. After spending six weeks in the gold mining town of Kalgoorlie, Mary's final medical placement is in Dalwallinu, a tiny town in the middle of Australia's Wheatbelt region. On her arrival, the towns only resident doctor disappears, leaving Mary completely on her own. And while running the busy GP surgery, the Hospital and attending emergencies 24 hours a day, she finally realises her childhood dream - working with the Royal Flying Doctor service.
