Portrait of Bill Deedes, a war hero, cabinet minister, Fleet Street editor, and journalist who was still working up to his death at the age of 94. He was also the inspiration for two legendary figures in English comic literature: Henry Boot in Evelyn Waugh’s Scoop, and Dear Bill in Private Eye. In this film, made by Michael Cockerell in 1994, Deedes talks with engaging candour about his life and loves.
