The founder of the MacDowell colony, American composer Edward MacDowell believed that the creative artists need uninterupted time and space and the opportunity to meet and share ideas with artists from the other disciplines. On a visit to the MacDowell colony in 2007, Donald Macleod visits animator, artist and photographer Corrie Francis in one of the studios and finds out what life was like for the early residents, including composers Amy Beach, Marion Bauer and Ruth Crawford Seeger.
