Check Up - Osteoporosis

One in two women and one in five men in the UK over the age of 50 will break a bone because of osteoporosis. Losing bone density is a natural part of the ageing process but what makes some people more susceptible to porous bones than others? Being post-menopausal, taking certain prescription drugs, smoking and drinking are all risk factors for developing osteoporosis. In this edition of Check Up, Barbara Myers is joined by Dr Nicola Peel, consultant in metabolic bone medicine to take your questions on bone health and osteoporosis. What are the best forms of prevention, treatment, who is most at risk and how can you get yourself tested?
