Sadiq Khan MP remembers the careers of Britain's first Asian MPs. Sadiq remembers his radical predecessor, Shapurji Saklatvala. One of Britain's first Asian MPs, Saklatvala's political career began in 1922 when he was elected as a Labour MP for South London. By the end of the decade, Saklatvala had been re-elected as Parliament's sole Communist MP, been imprisoned for sedition and become famous for his brilliant oratory and campaign for Indian independence.
