Written and abridged by James Robertson. Abridgement of the second narrative strand in James Robertson's monumental new novel which portrays the last six decades of Scotland's social and political landscape through the lives of a handful of characters. This week, the action is set in 1950 and the story focuses on the friendship between Don and Jack - two men in their thirties from the same village in Fife. Both served in the war and, five years on, it still casts a shadow. Jack has gone missing and Don's search is cut short when his wife goes into labour. Suffering serious complications, she is taken into hospital and Don waits anxiously for news. Read by Liam Brennan. Produced by Kirsteen Cameron.
