Mike Pendreich has moved from Edinburgh to live in his late father Angus's cottage in the far north of Scotland. Angus was one of the greatest photographers of the post-war era and the remote cottage houses a vast archive of his prints and negatives. Mike has been asked to curate a major retrospective of his father's work. Sifting through the messy archive, Mike is increasingly uncertain about the facts of his childhood and, seeking clarity, he decides to visit Jean Barbour, an old lover of his father's.
