Black Screen Britain - Reclaiming Our Image

Burt Caesar explores how British film and television drama portrayed post-war African-Caribbean migrants and created opportunities for pioneering black actors such as Earl Cameron, Cy Grant and Mona Hammond. In the 1970s, a growing number of black writers and film makers started to challenge the prevailing stereotypes of black people and to tell their own stories. Burt examines some of the landmark screen dramas that presented an alternative view of black lives in Britain.
