Birdman of Alcatraz

True-life drama about Robert Stroud, who, while serving a life sentence in Alcatraz, developed an interest in birds and went on to become an expert ornithologist. Originally Stroud is condemned to death, but his sentence is commuted after his mother makes an emotional plea at the White House. The uncompromising inmate's life changes when a sick bird flies into his cell and he lovingly nurses it back to health.
