Beechgrove Garden - 2010 - Episode 7

Jim and Lesley are sowing those extraordinary plants that flower from seed to transform a brown patch into an all colours of the rainbow patch in just a few short weeks. The amazing, quick and easy and fun to grow, hardy annuals. Carole and Lesley also start their now annual task to fill up the wee decking garden with fruit and veg, proving that you can have a feast from your garden in a very tiny space. They also start their annual competition of who can grow the most tatties in containers. Carole is also way too excited... One of Carole's favourite plants is the fern and this week she's off to see the unique newly-restored Victorian Fernery at Benmore Botanic Garden. Nestled in a shaded cleft in the hillside, it has been landscaped inside and out with a range of native and exotic ferns. Carole is in her element. Carolyn is with Kathryn Boag in Crossford, South Lanarkshire, helping her carry out a massive spring clean of her garden. Kathyrn is an impulse plant buyer and has plants from shows and garden centres all over her garden that don't really work together and can't survive. Carolyn shows Kathryn how to create a border from scratch (once they have cleared out) with plants that will suit her and her conditions.
