Beechgrove Garden - 2010 - Episode 17

Bedding plants can give gardens instant seasonal colour, and this week Jim, Carole and Lesley assess how Beechgrove's have been faring over the summer. One of the loveliest of summer flowers is the sweet pea. Lesley takes a look and a deep breath at her sweet pea trials. She chose to trial some of the most fragrant sweet peas she could find - and they look lovely and smell even better. Carole goes back to visit Claire Reid and Mark Cardno in their garden near Inverurie to see how the herb plants she installed in their stone circle nearly two months ago are thriving. Jim meets Anna Baker Cresswell, who runs the charity called Gardening Leave. SAC Auchincruive just outside Ayr is the home for this charity and it is here that Anna introduces war veterans who are suffering psychological trauma as a result of tours in combat zones to the importance of horticultural therapy as part of their recovery programme.
