BBC PROMS 2010 Live from the Royal Albert Hall, London Presented by Katie Derham Pianist Paul Lewis continues his cycle of all five Beethoven piano concertos. Beethoven revised No 2 many times before it was published. He was developing the form and there is still a youthful feel about this concerto, looking back in style to Haydn and Mozart. The Beethoven concerto is framed by Wagner's lively overture to Rienzi, which opened the very first Prom in 1895, and the ever-popular New World Symphony by Dvorak. The CBSO is conducted by its Latvian Music Director Andris Nelsons. Wagner: Rienzi - overture Beethoven: Piano Concerto No 2 in B flat Paul Lewis (piano) City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra Andris Nelsons (conductor) This Prom will be repeated on Tuesday 3rd August at 2pm.
