From the Royal Albert Hall, Charles Hazlewood introduces a concert by the San Francisco Symphony led by Michael Tilson Thomas. The programme begins with Charles Ives' 3rd Symphony. One of America's leading dramatic sopranos, Deborah Voigt, is the soloist in the final scene of Salome by Richard Strauss. The concert concludes with a great symphonic show piece - 5th Symphony by Shostakovich.
