Ali Abbas: Back to Baghdad

Logo for Ali Abbas: Back to Baghdad

Ali Abbas became an icon of the Iraq War when he lost his arms after an American missile hit his home during the bombing of Baghdad. Fourteen members of his family died in the attack. When images of him with arms amputated were beamed around the world, it sparked a tidal-wave of sympathy, and a charity fund was set up which brought him to Britain for treatment. Six years on, Ali is now 18, and the charity money is due to run out. If he wants to remain in Britain, he will have to become more independent. But he is returning to Baghdad, as Iraqi Forces regain control, to help him decide where his future lies.
