Ulster Orchestra Summer Series The Ulster Orchestra performs music recorded in the Ulster Hall, Belfast, as part of the 2009 BBC Summer Concert series. The 2009 themes include French connections, Irish pianists and Northern Ireland's composers. The programme includes Ibert's Divertissement, which began life as music for a revival of Eugene, Labiche's farce about a bridegroom trying to get to the church on time, and Stravinsky's Pulcinella, his ballet based on music attributed to Pergolesi. Young Belfast pianist Michael McHale performs Franck's virtuosic Symphonic Variations and there is the world premiere performance of Belfast-born composer Ian White's new work, Strata - a BBC Radio 3 commission inspired by the Mourne Mountains in County Down and the Giant's Causeway in County Antrim, as well as by the history revealed through a visit to the Museu Historia de la Ciutad in Barcelona. 2.15pm Ibert: Divertissment Pierre Andre Valade (conductor) Stravinsky: Pulcinella Suite Pierre Andre Valade (conductor) Franck: Symphonic Variations Michael McHale (piano) Pascal Rophe (conductor) 3.10pm Lalo: Symphony in G minor Jean-Luc Tingaud (conductor) Roussel: Concerto for small orchestra Jane Glover (conductor) 3.55pm Ian White: Strata (BBC Radio 3 commission; world premiere) Pascal Rophe (conductor) 4.35pm Debussy, arr.
