Presented by Louise Fryer BBC Proms 2008 A Prom in which celebrated French conductor Stephane Deneve conducts the Royal Scottish National Orchestra in a programme dominated by the theme of the sea. The erotic Bacchus et Ariane Suite No 2 by mariner-turned-composer Albert Roussel opens the concert, which ends with Debussy's famous symphonic sketches, La mer. In between, there is a performance of Rainbow by Thea Musgrave, who celebrates her 80th birthday this year. The piece charts a musical journey from an approaching storm, through the appearance of a rainbow to a sunny chorale of thanksgiving. And to complete the Proms cycle of Rachmaninov concertos, award-winning pianist Stephen Hough plays the most popular concerto of them all.
