A Point of View

Huizinga and the human cost of cuts

Lisa Jardine reflects on the upcoming government spending cuts through the prism of Dutch historian, Johan Huizinga, and argues that the human cost of the cuts must not be overlooked. She describes how Huizinga - writing in the 1940s - was concerned about an obsession with economics - where only the number counts - and says those in public life should not fall into the same trap when deciding where to cut. Producer: Adele Armstrong.
