Wilson Burgess reads us his poem about Burnquarter Wee Still; and the poem is complemented by Robin Laing’s song, ‘A wee drappie o’t’ from his collection of songs about Scotland’s famous drink on the CD ‘The Water of Life’. Ayrshire poet, Rab Wilson, recently visited County Mayo in Ireland. He reads two new poems, inspired by the trip: ‘Raftery’s Choice’ and ‘On a Famine Road, County Mayo’. Suitable to the time of year, Willie finds a song by Violet Jacob from Angus, who died in 1946. The poem is called ‘Halloween’ and is sung by Agnes Whiteman from Garvagh with Phyllis Martin and Susie Kelly on harmonies. The song can be found on Agnes’ CD, ‘Ploughing where the Barley Grew’. We’ve another song from Robin Laing, this one written by Tom Clelland - ‘The Ghost wi’ the squeaky wheel’.
