6 Mix - Quantic and the Herbaliser in the Mix

To celebrate 'Independents Day', the 6 Mix presents new mixes from two of the UK's best alternative independent dance labels - Ninja Tunes and Tru Thoughts. In the first hour, Tru Thoughts' Quantic - also known as Will Holland - takes us through a selection of his current favourites and tunes which have inspired tracks on his new album. Originally from Worcestershire but now based in Cali, Colombia, Holland has drawn from hip hop, funk, dub and jazz to create Quantic's distinctive sound. In this mix he plays tracks from his eagerly awaited new LP, 'Dog With A Rope' alongside classic tunes from Prince Buster and Sound Dimension which have influenced his sound. In the second hour Ollie and Jake from Ninja Tune legends The Herbaliser take over with a heady mix of funk and hip hop including classic tracks from Rose Royce and Roy Ayers. The band, who've lined up a summer of European gigs including dates in France, Italy and Hungary, release a retrospective of their time with Ninja entitled 'Herbal Tonic' this week, and during the mix there's chance to hear some classic Herbaliser moments from their 15 year career.
