Catherine Bott presents higjhlights of an all Vivaldi concert, recorded earlier this year from the Music Festival Potsdam Sanssouci, performed by Fabio Biondi and his ensemble Europa Galante. The theme of the festival was 'Venice – musica serenissima' a survey of '500 years of musical life in the city of the lagoon'. The Artistic Director Andrea Palent said fo the Festival that, 'we want to show how Venice had been a distinguished and outstanding European musical metropolis a long time before and certainly after Vivaldi, where opera and concert life were flourishing as well as the manufacture of musical instruments and the printing of sheet music.' The programme includes a couple of arias sung by the mezzo Marina de Liso, and various concerti including the much-loved mandolin concerto played by Sonia Maurer.
