New series of the arts and culture programme. With the summer solstice approaching, Lauren Laverne and Mark Kermode present a seaside summer special. Kent resident and contemporary art fan Vic Reeves finds out whether the inaugural Folkstone Triennial can breathe new life into Folkestone. Meanwhile, Tom Dyckhoff is in Morecambe for the re-opening of the newly restored modernist gem, The Midland Hotel. To celebrate the 11 million pound restoration, which took Urban Splash five years, The Culture Show host an evening of music with the BBC's Big Band, accompanied by 26-year-old blues singer Beth Rowley. We pay tribute to poet Dylan Thomas as John Maybury's film biopic, The Edge of Love, opens. The residents of Laugharne and Swansea re-create some of Thomas's most iconic poems, while star of the film Matthew Rhys pops in to talk about his role. Plus Mark previews the upcoming Edinburgh International Film Festival, additional music from Neon Neon in this uncut edition, and more brilliant new animation from young British talent.
