Diane Louise Jordan commemorates the day, exactly two hundred years ago, when Parliament passed an Act to abolish the British Slave Trade. Dr Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury, considers the importance of healing the wounds of the past and Esther Stanford speaks about her own personal journey to discover her roots. The music reflects the pain, but also the faith and hope of enslaved Africans, performed by Willard White and the Adventist Vocal Ensemble. The hymns include Amazing Grace and some of the best-loved African-American spirituals such as Deep River, Steal Away, and Swing Low, Sweet Chariot.
