From the Metropolitan Opera, New York, Marco Armiliato conducts Placido Domingo in the role of Maurizio, in which he made his Met debut in 1969, along with Maria Guleghina and Olga Borodina in Cilea's evergreen opera. In 1730 at the Comedie Francaise in Paris, the great actress of the age, Adriana Lecouvreur, inspires a devoted following of aristocratic admirers, including Maurizio, Count of Saxony. Jealously is never far away and, tragically, this spells the end for Adriana in the form of poisoned flowers from an embittered rival for Maurizio's affections. Presented by Margaret Juntwait with guest commentator Ira Siff. The intervals include backstage interviews and the Met Opera Quiz. Adriana ...... Maria Guleghina (soprano) The Princess ......
