Athletics: World Championships - 2009 - Day 5, Part 1

Continued live action from Berlin as another busy morning of action begins. The opening heats of the women's 200m start with Jamaican and American athletes looking the dominant forces on paper. Ethiopian Meseret Defar is the current world champion in the 5,000m and she has spoken of attempting to break the world record in Germany. At this stage, however, she will simply be looking to qualify for the final, along with compatriot Meselech Melkamu, who has enjoyed a fine season to date. The men's decathlon also gets under way with the 100m, long shot and shot put events taking place.
