Cavalli: La Calisto Last month the Theatre des Champs-Elysees in Paris staged Cavalli's opera, first seen in Venice in 1651. Jupiter (Giove), king of the gods, comes to earth to clear up after a war but is immediately distracted by the beautiful but chaste nymph Calisto, who's devoted to the service of the goddess Diana. Then Mercury has the bright idea that Jupiter disguise himself as Diana...
