Presented by Penny Gore. BBC Proms 2008: An electro-acoustic Prom with works by some of the biggest names in electronic music. Featuring Jonathan Harvey's Mortuos plango, vivos voco, which merges the sound of the great bell of Winchester Cathedral with the voice of a boy treble, as well as his new commision Speakings, which plays on the musical content of speech and his His Tombeau de Messiaen. The French composer himself is represented by the Concert a quatre, a work completed after his death by his widow Yvonne Loriod, while Edgar Varese - one of the great early pioneers of electronic music - is represented by his tape piece Poeme electronique, and his work for orchestra and tape Deserts.
