The magical soundworld of the Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis for string orchestra is followed by the narrative ballet Job and Serenade to Music, with words by Shakespeare and, according to tradition, featuring 16 leading British singers. The programme ends with Vaughan Williams's last symphony - the Ninth - which was completed when he was 85 years old. Introduced by Rob Cowan.
