Hanna’s Close is a clachan near Kilkeel in County Down. Settled in 1640 by Scots immigrants, only Hannas were allowed to live in the old cottages. Andy Mattison meets Norma Fisher in the house she grew up in at Hanna’s Close and she tells him about life in a place where time stood still. The Erne Highland Dance School is now one year old and flourishing. Helen Mark meets two of its founder members at Crom Castle near Newtownbutler in County Fermanagh. Trevor and Audrey Watson are hugely committed to developing Ulster-Scots heritage and culture in Fermanagh. Musicians Colum Sands from Newry and Maggie MacInnes, whose family come from the Isle of Barra in Scotland, have launched a new CD. The lyrics and stories of the songs have an Ulster-Scots feel and a strong connection to Robert Burns. Frank Ferguson of the University of Ulster teases out the language connections between Irish, Scots-Gaelic, Elizabethan English and Ulster-Scots.
